Canon: Super Mario Bros.

http://www.gamehiker.com/wiki/index.php?title=Kamek (In case you don't want to touch the Mariowiki. Some people think the Mario Wiki is fanonated poison.)

AU Background:
Kamek hails from a small, secluded kingdom of reptites (turtles, particularly) secluded near the mountain region. That kingdom had a group of magic-wielding warriors called “Magikoopas”, and as a young teenager, this young man wanted to be among those ranks more than anything else. He was a self-proclaimed genius that was totally capable of that, after all. Much of his life was spent studying magic at Dalaran with the ambition to return home as a great sorcerer, and that he did. He was even appointed as head of the Magikoopa troops.

And soon enough, he was also appointed in the castle as the caretaker of a young Prince Bowser, and when that prince grew up and became king, Kamek then had to help care for his offspring. At least he developed some patience with children, but… children are kind of nasty and spoiled and intolerable. But he rolled with it and still managed to maintain his wizard army with his genius.

Kamek felt, however, that he could do better magic-wise, especially when juggling two jobs gave him little time to himself and his personal training, so with Bowser and his offspring being… relatively matured, he left on a journey back to Dalaran. He assumes he’ll earn a living using his magic as a cheap hypnotist service, and this is where he comes into the game.

Should he need the other Magikoopas for aid, they'll be ready to serve, and if his home is in a crisis that needs him (hello potential bowser player), Kamek will return to serve.

Personality:
At a first glance or to those who don’t know him well, Kamek is a self-absorbed jerk who considers himself smarter and better than most people in the world, but even with any connections to the dragons in terms of species, this almost-five-foot turtle wearing coke-bottle glasses could never be seen as an intimidating person (not even by his own troops). Rarely engaging in battles himself does not help. Give him time and he’ll have an insulting nickname for each person he communicates with or will show off some pranky magic or hypnotist trick that can humiliate the one being pranked. Sometimes he even does this with friends, as he doesn’t seem to believe in such thing as “psychological damage.” He generally does call friends and other respected people by their name but an insulting nickname will slip out once in a while. Is it easy to be friends with him? How easy is it for you to put up with him enough to get on his good side? You’ll get a complimentary pat on the back. This is Kamek in a good mood. In lesser moods, he’s more quiet and introverted, but will get kind of snappy if he has to talk to someone.

He’s very serious about his work, though, studying magic, strategizing plans (army-related or otherwise)and serving Bowser, so he has all the reason in the world to boast about how he’s a genius. If he is needed to do something, he will work tirelessly at getting it done. Does it always go well? No. He actually fails almost as much as he succeeds, but he’s no OCD perfectionist. After a night of brooding in disappointment, it goes on his growing list of things of what not to do, and he moves on.

And if he meets someone better than him, he gets easily envious but will still try to outshine that person in some way.

In his free time, he’s pretty laid back and easily approachable. I mean approachable as in you can stop him for a conversation and he won’t whip out his wand and attack(?) you. He can still be an insufferable douche if he’s in the mood for it.

Combat Style: Kamek does not fight, or he would at least prefer not to. His ways of combat mainly consists of turning inanimate objects into small monsters or other inanimate props with his magic, and flinging them out to attack his targets. In some cases, he can transform other living beings, but does this on rare instances, as it expends a lot of energy out of him. His magic ability doesn't appear capable of inflicting much harm to others. He can size a plant up to hit the roof and attack with thorny vines, but he can't zap a baby to smithereens. Maybe it'll sting a little if someone is hit by beams, but that's about it. This is something he won't share, though.

Kingdom or Faction: (his background is from the Koopa Kingdom, but I’m not sure if it’s doable if he’s the only character in it right now, can I say he assumes himself as unaligned while prancing around in public away from home?)

Primary Role: Commander

Soldier or Siege Company:
Kamek is the commander of Bowser's Magikoopa pact. They're pretty identical-looking in nature, sporting the same glasses and blue wizard robes, and unless Kamek wears anything even slightly different, those outside the pact might not tell him apart from his soldiers. He sometimes uses this to his advantage if he doesn't want to be noticed, but otherwise, he wil wear alternate variations of the blue wizard robe, or just blue clothes in general (AOB knows I habitually draw the characters I roleplay in fancy alternate outfits).

Tarot Cards: The Magician, The Fool, and the Chariot

Title: Turtle Potter The Koopa Wizard.

Artifacts: None, although Baby Mario could have been accounted for as an artifact of great power, but that's just how Kamek sees it, and Mario's all grown up now so this concept has been long expired.

Setting Considerations: I'd like to hold off on dabbling into this until I'm better familiar with this game, if that's alright.

Notes: I definitely don't want to appear godmode-ish with this character, so if any plots or events do have Kamek using magic that could considerably affect things, I will have these things discussed with tagmates and mods to keep the magic use in check.

Sample Post:
Question: You are about to embark upon a grand journey. What do you carry in your satchel?
A magic wand is all I’ll need. Food, coin, and all other necessities can be picked up at various places along the way. Then I’d have to wonder why I’m even carrying a satchel in the first place unless it looks nice!

Question: Your liege has called upon you to perform a task of great importance. Upon what do you rely to complete it?
I’m not sure what kind of vague question this is, but in most cases (because even as much as making a sandwich is “a task of great importance” when it comes to Lord Bowser- you saw my finger gestures when I said “a task of great importance, right?”), I gather a bunch of competent toadies and have them do the dirty work. Sometimes the task turns out to be much greater than their competence levels, though, so I’d have to take care of it myself, in which case, a broomstick and magic wand will suffice.

Question: What does your presence bring to your kingdom?
Security? I’ve looked after the Koopa family for generations and ever since Lord Bowser was a baby, I’ve managed to pull him out of trouble so he could rule his dark land another day. He’s a big guy now, but he still needs to be looked after now and then. Big oaf. (He’s not going to see this, is he?)

Question: It is the eve of a great battle, and the troops have made camp for the night. Where are you and what are you doing?
As much as I’d like to bonk them on the head for slacking off, I have to be in my library doing the extra planning work to make sure our strategy doesn’t fail… (I am brimming with self-confidence over here!) Accompanying me is usually my most competent troops in the entire army: seven cups of caffinated beverage.

Question: The pressures of court have become too much for you to bear, what do you do?
This could serve as a secondary reason why I currently left my post. Serving Lord Bowser and his offspring is pretty brutal as is without the troops involved, and gosh do I have needs and wants, too! Mostly wants! Messing with people’s heads is one of those wants, I assure you, but I also want to continue mage studies. For reasons.

Question: You are given the opportunity to bet everything you have for great fortune, should you win you will be granted the wealth of kings but should you lose you will lose everything. What do you do?
What am I going to do with that much money if I already live in a filthy stinkin’ rich castle? But wealth could mean anything great, right? How about being the greatest, most respected wizard in Dagaria! I already AM the greatest, but others need to see it! I’d probably go for it. I could lose my rank, my funds, or my wizard hat, but it’s not like my talents will be taken away from me too, right?

Right?

Question: For what cause are you willing to sacrifice yourself?
The safety and prosperity of the royal Koopa family. Guess it can’t be helped in the end.

Question: A celebration is being held in your honor. Lavish food, gifts, and even people are offered at your table. What do you take or do in celebration of your achievements?
If this ever happens to me, I’m definitely staying sober so I can remember every minute of it when I wake up the next morning! I’d just bask in all the appreciation and stuff my face with food. I don’t know what I’d do about the people offerings, though… Hypnotize them into doing stupid things for my entertainment? Yeah! Bark like a baby dragon while hopping on one foot, missy!

Question: Everything you love and held dear has been taken from you in the blink of an eye. What do you do?
Embark on the seven stages of grief somewhere far away from the castle with a magic wand in one hand and wine in the other, and then figure out where life takes me from there, trying to convince myself it’s called “freedom”. You should look ar the page I’ve stapled to the back of this response about the grief stages. If you can get past the absurd typeface used, it’s actually quite a riveting read! I keep a lot of fascinating things in my library.

Question: At the end of the journey, what remains in your satchel?
A magic wand and some coin. The wand was all I needed from the start. The money is just me being greedy, though I’ll no longer need it once I’m home.
